Sabinsa Corporation received the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for the year 2004. This annual award instituted by the Research & Development Council of New Jersey , honors the most important scientific breakthroughs and revolutionary product innovations originating in New Jersey . Awards are given in various industrial categories after careful consideration by the Council, which is constituted by leading professionals from industry and academia. Sabinsa's U.S. patent (No. 5,804,596) for ForsLean® was the entry that received this honor in the Consumer/Small Company category.
The patent covers the method of preparing a forskolin composition from Coleus forskohlii extract and the use of forskolin for promoting lean body mass and treating mood disorders.
The award was presented at the Council's Annual Awards Dinner on November 11, 2004 , at the Liberty Science Center , New Jersey . The other winners of the 2004 awards include multinational giants such as Celgene Corporation, Merck & Co., Inc., Schering-Plough Research Institute, Wyeth, International Specialty Products, Engelhard Corporation and Exxon-Mobil Research & Engineering.
This is the second award for Fors- Lean ® in the innovation arena. The product earlier won the Best New Product award in 2001 at Nutracon.
