Mineral nutrients are valued for their multifaceted roles as cofactors in biochemical processes in the body and as integral constituents of the tissues in the body. Termed "micronutrients", minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium are required at daily levels ranging from a few hundred milligrams to a few thousand milligrams, while minerals such as iron, copper, zinc, manganese, cobalt, iodine and selenium are required in trace amounts ranging from microgram levels to a few milligrams, to ensure health and well being. Sabinsa’s range of mineral nutrients (listed on the back page of this letter) are carefully prepared to ensure optimal bioavailability. Magnesium, calcium, potassium and zinc are supplied in better absorbed organic forms as ascorbates, aspartates, citrates, malates or methionates.
Ligands such as ascorbic acid, aspartic acid, citric acid, malic acid, and the amino acid, methionine facilitate the entry of the attached mineral into the cells in the body. The ligands themselves have significant biological functions in the body. For example, Aspartic acid is a metabolic intermediate in several biochemical pathways in the body, including the tricarboxylic acid and urea cycles. Aspartic acid salts (aspartates) are believed to be mineral transporters to the metabolizing cells, aiding in the metabolic process by replenishing vital electrolytes thereby contributing to efficient energy production. In addition, the aspartate moiety is reported to reduce oxygen consumption by the cells during the energy cycle.
Selenium is supplied in the form of the "molecularly integrated’ Selenomethionine (SelenimSelect®) in the appropriate, bioavailable, dextrorotatory (L(+)) chiral form. Sabinsa Corporation helped develop the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) monograph for this product and also provided the reference standard.
