Sabinsa Corporation is winner of the Thomas Alva Edison Patent award for the year 2004 in the Consumer/Small Company category. The entry submitted was Sabinsa's patent on ForsLean®, US Patent # 5,804,596 titled "Method of Preparing a Forskolin Composition from Forskolin Extract and Use of Forskolin for Promoting Lean Body Mass and Treating Mood Disorders".
The annual Thomas Alva Edison Patent Awards instituted by The Research & Development Council of New Jersey honors the inventors of the most revolutionary product innovations and important scientific breakthroughs originating in New Jersey . Awards are given in various industrial categories.
The 2003 categories of Consumer, Enabling Technology, Industrial, Information Technology and Medical Technology Transfer featured multinational giants such as AT&T, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Exxon-Mobil Research & Engineering, as winners. Earlier, Sabinsa Corporation was a finalist for the award in the Health & Medicine category in the year 1999 for the patent on Bioperine®.
This is the second award for ForsLean® in the innovation arena . The product earlier won the Best New Product award in 2001 at Nutracon.
